Job Description:
The Winchman is mainly responsible for safely maneuvering heavy equipment to ensure appropriate movement, loading, and off-loading of cargoes.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Performs equipment inspection, and properly handles the winch of the vessel before operating the equipment to hoist and move cargo.
2. Responsible for loading, unloading, packing, and unpacking cargo and materials.
3. Responsible for the training of new hire winchman/signalman.
4. Ensure activities follow safety procedures and standard operating procedures.
5. Works under the general supervision of a foreman/Supervisor who issues oral instructions and signals of signalmen for the desired movement in the vessel operations.
6. Organize the set-up of quayside work areas, including facilities for cut-out trailers and twist-lock bins location.
7. Participate with the operations supervisor during the daily briefing and tool-box meetings.
8. Alert to sudden changes in the desired movement of the crane, workers in and around winch cables and lines, cable entanglements, and unusual strain on winch and winch cables to prevent injury to personnel, cable breakage, and damage to equipment.
9. Report damages and discrepancies when noticed while handling the cargoes.
10. Ensure that the crane is thoroughly checked before operation and confirm that it is in good working condition.
11. Performs other duties related to port operation when the need for a signalman or winchman is less.
12. Performs other tasks as may be assigned by superiors.
Qualifications:

- NCII in heavy equipment operator
- Driver’s License
- Mechanical and Technical Knowledge and Ability

- Good judgment and communication skills

- Ability to follow instructions as advised
