Globalport Zamboanga Terminal Inc. (GZTI) Strengthens Coastal Resilience Through Mangrove Tree Planting Initiative

On April 11, 2026, Globalport Zamboanga Terminal Inc. (GZTI) successfully conducted a mangrove planting activity as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives at Barangay Talabaan, Zamboanga City.

The activity began with a brief orientation session, especially designed for first-time participants. During this session, facilitators discussed proper mangrove planting techniques as well as the ecological importance of mangrove forests in coastal protection, biodiversity conservation, and climate resilience. This ensured that all participants were well-prepared and aligned with the objectives of the activity.

Following the orientation, participants proceeded to the designated coastal planting area. Despite the challenging soft and muddy terrain—where participants’ feet sank approximately half a foot into the mud—the group collectively planted around 3,500 mangrove propagules. The conditions, while physically demanding, highlighted the resilience and commitment of everyone involved.

Throughout the activity, participants maintained high energy, enthusiasm, and cooperation. The shared experience fostered stronger camaraderie among team members and volunteers, while reinforcing awareness of environmental stewardship and the long-term importance of mangrove ecosystems.

Overall, the mangrove planting activity was both meaningful and memorable, reflecting Globalport Zamboanga Terminal Inc.’s continued commitment to sustainable environmental practices and community engagement.
