CENRO Iligan Mangrove Growing Activity and Coastal Clean-Up Drive

On July 28, 2026, Globalport Iligan Terminal Inc. (GITI) proudly participated in the International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem, an annual observance held every July to raise awareness and promote the conservation, protection, and sustainable management of mangrove ecosystems.

The activity was spearheaded by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Region X (DENR-X), through the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) Iligan, in collaboration with the Philippine Coast Guard and Global Terminal Inc., together with other participating partner agencies and stakeholders. The activity was held at Marcelo Fertilizer, Maria Cristina, Iligan City, Lanao del Norte, with the objective of encouraging active participation in environmental conservation and strengthening collective efforts toward coastal and marine ecosystem protection.

The participants found that the unusually high tide had made the designated site unsafe and unsuitable for the planned mangrove-planting activity. In response, the participating agencies jointly agreed to conduct a coastal clean-up drive instead.

The activity also demonstrated the value of inter-agency cooperation and adaptability in environmental initiatives. By working together despite the unfavorable site conditions, the participating organizations were able to fulfill the spirit and objectives of the event through a meaningful and practical environmental activity.

Following the activity, Forester Nor-Ain L. Tiburon, the assigned DENR-CENRO personnel, informed the participating agencies that certificates of participation would still be issued in recognition of their support and active participation in the event.

Through its participation, GITI reaffirmed its commitment to environmental stewardship, corporate social responsibility, and sustainable community engagement GITI recognizes that protecting the environment requires sustained collaboration among government agencies, private organizations, and local communities. Its participation in this initiative reflects the company’s continuing efforts to contribute to environmental conservation and strengthen partnerships that support the protection of coastal and marine ecosystems.
