Globalport Tacloban Unites Community for Mangrove Planting Initiative in Samar

Globalport Tacloban successfully held its inaugural mangrove planting activity on July 4, 2025, in Barangay Dampigan, Sta. Rita, Samar. The event drew a diverse group of over 3,500 dedicated volunteers, including representatives from the Municipality of Sta. Rita led by Mayor Ms. Tiu, local Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) officials from both Samar and Leyte, and members of the Philippine Army from Tacloban and Samar. The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA), MSP-SAC, MENRO, and Globalport Tacloban employees also participated, united under the theme “Just Plant a Tree Today, and Save Sta. Rita Tomorrow.”

This initiative served as a powerful reminder of how each mangrove planted significantly protects the community and its neighboring towns from future calamities. Residents of Barangay Dampigan expressed their sincere gratitude for being chosen as the site for this important environmental project, recognizing its long-term benefits. The event highlighted Globalport’s commitment to giving back to the community by investing resources, time, and effort into meaningful environmental protection efforts.

The volunteers’ resilience and collective effort resulted in a successful planting of 3,500 propagules, marking a vital step toward safeguarding the local environment.
