Globalport Surigao Extends Relief to Employees and Community Following Brgy. Taft Blaze

SURIGAO CITY – Demonstrating a deep commitment to its workforce and the local community, Globalport Surigao Terminal Inc. (GSTI) facilitated a targeted relief operation on December 18, 2025, to aid those affected by the devastating fire that recently swept through Barangay Taft.

The initiative focused on two fronts: providing direct support to the company’s own “”Batang Pier”” family and contributing to the city-wide relief efforts managed by the local government.

Recognizing the personal loss suffered by its staff, GSTI management turned over cash assistance to employees whose homes were among the 75 structures damaged in the massive fire last November 25. This internal support aims to provide a financial cushion for these employees as they navigate the long process of recovery and rebuilding.

Simultaneously, Globalport extended its reach to the wider community of displaced residents. The company donated eight full sacks of rice, which were officially handed over to the Surigao City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) at the Barangay Taft Gymnasium evacuation center. These essential provisions are intended to augment the daily food requirements of the families still seeking shelter and assistance at the center.

The relief turnover comes weeks after the 5th-alarm fire razed a densely populated area in Purok Camia and Purok Diamond 2, affecting nearly 1,000 individuals.

Through this dual-approach initiative, Globalport Surigao Terminal Inc. continues to reinforce its role as a proactive and empathetic partner in the city’s journey toward resilience and recovery.
