Globalport Ozamiz Anchors Coastal Conservation with Major Mangrove Initiative

In a powerful display of community spirit and environmental stewardship, Globalport Ozamiz Terminal Inc. marked World Wetlands Day on February 2, 2026, by leading a massive mangrove planting and coastal cleanup at the shoreline of Brgy. Mialen, Clarin, Misamis Occidental. Under the global theme, “Wetlands and Traditional Knowledge: Celebrating Cultural Heritage,” the initiative highlighted the deep-rooted connection between coastal ecosystems and the heritage of the communities that rely on them for their livelihoods and protection.

The event kicked off at 0630H as a diverse group of volunteers gathered to turn the tide for local biodiversity. By the end of the morning, a total of 2,500 mangrove propagules were successfully planted along the coastline. These mangroves act as a vital “Green Wall” for the region, providing essential services such as buffering the shoreline against storm surges, sequestering carbon to combat climate change, and serving as a critical nursery for marine life.

The success of the activity was a direct result of broad collaboration across both government and private sectors. Joining the Globalport Ozamiz team were key partners including the Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (DENR-CENRO), the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA), and the Barangay Local Government Unit of Mialen. Private sector support was also strong, with participation from OSAMCO Manufacturing Corporation, PSACC Shipping Lines, and various other civic-oriented organizations.

Recognizing that planting is only one part of the solution, the event concluded with a comprehensive coastal clean-up drive. Volunteers combed the shoreline to remove non-biodegradable waste, ensuring that the newly planted propagules have the best possible environment to thrive without the threat of plastic pollution. This day of action reinforced a collective commitment to environmental conservation, proving that when industry leaders and local communities unite, the impact on the environment is both immediate and enduring.
