Globalport Surigao Terminal Inc. Empowers Sama Bajau Community with Livelihood and Health Program

SURIGAO CITY, Philippines – Globalport Surigao Terminal Inc. (GSTI) successfully conducted its “Annual Livelihood Program” on Friday, November 7, 2025, providing vital skills training and health education to the Sama Bajau community at the Bajau Eco-Village in Sitio Panubigon, Barangay Lipata.

The initiative, which began at 9:00 AM, aimed to equip the residents of the “Huy-anan nan Bajau Project” with practical knowledge and tools. The program was divided into specialized sessions to maximize impact, benefiting 48 community members.

A total of 24 male attendees participated in a hands-on training session on Basic Electrical Wiring Installation and Maintenance. The workshop was facilitated by Facilities Management Specialist Julius Menor, who guided the participants through essential safety protocols and practical application. To ensure the sustainability of their new skills, GSTI also provided the men with basic tool kits, which included electrical tape, pliers, screwdrivers, and measuring tapes.

Simultaneously, 24 female attendees joined a Health Awareness Seminar. The session, led by OH Nurse Mary Ivony Arguelles and Safety Officer Sonnielene Jorge Orgil, focused on crucial topics such as basic food safety, personal hygiene, and sanitation. Nurse Arguelles also provided free blood pressure screenings for the attendees.

The event was conducted in close partnership with the community. Sama Bajau Tribal Leader, Dahila Amad Araman, was instrumental in assisting the GSTI team, ensuring the activities met the community’s needs.

Following the training sessions, Ms. Araman guided the GSTI volunteers on an immersion tour, warmly welcoming them into the homes of their new village. The tour offered a meaningful glimpse into the life of the Sama-Bajau, highlighting a renewed sense of opportunity and hope. Organizers noted the community expressed feeling renewed, supported, and empowered by the day’s program.

Globalport Tacloban Leads Successful Mangrove Planting in Sta. Rita

Last October 17, 2025, Globalport Tacloban, in partnership with the Municipality of Sta. Rita and MENRO successfully held a Mangrove Planting Activity at Brgy. Dampigan, Sta. Rita, Samar. 

A total of *3,800 mangrove propagules were planted by volunteers and partners from the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Philippine Coast Guard, Philippine Army, Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection, Leyte Normal University, Central Sto. Niño de Tacloban Eagles Club, Philippine Dental Association, Junior Chamber International of Sta. Rita, Sta. Rita Youth, EMET Port Builders, Strategic Alternative Corp., and GTTI volunteers. 

The event aimed at strengthening environmental protection and community resilience. These mangroves will serve as natural barriers against storm surges and flooding, while also serving as breeding grounds for fish, crustaceans, and shellfish which will help in providing alternative livelihoods for local communities.

Participants expressed their appreciation for Globalport’s effort and commitment to environmental sustainability. It served as both an inspiration and a call to action, highlighting the responsibility of everyone to protect and preserve our natural resources for future generations.

Coastal Rehabilitation: Globalport Matnog Leads Mangrove Planting in Sorsogon with DENR

On October 12, 2025, the GMTI Team, in partnership with the PENRO-DENR Sorsogon and under the supervision of Mr. Futol (DENR Inspector), successfully conducted a Mangrove Tree Planting Activity in Matnog, Sorsogon. Barangay officials were also active participants in the initiative, which Mr. Futol witnessed.

As part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, with the theme “Isang Puno, Isang Buhay,” a total of 5,000 mangrove propagules were planted. This initiative directly supports environmental protection, biodiversity conservation, and the rehabilitation of the local coastal areas.

Despite the challenging, muddy, and slippery terrain, the participants’ dedication, teamwork, and shared commitment ensured the activity’s success, powerfully showcasing a collective spirit of unity and responsibility toward the environment.

On September 20, 2025, Globalport Matnog actively participated in the International Coastal Clean-Up Drive held at Barangay Camcaman, Matnog. This vital environmental initiative saw a strong showing of commitment from various partner organizations, including the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO), local Barangay Officials, the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA), and several other dedicated private groups. This collective mobilization served as a powerful, hands-on demonstration of our shared responsibility to the environment and the preservation of crucial marine resources.

The success of the clean-up effort went beyond simply clearing debris from the coastline; it significantly strengthened partnerships between government agencies and the private sector. By working shoulder-to-shoulder, the participants not only achieved a cleaner and healthier coastline but also effectively promoted community awareness. (GOTI) marked International Coastal Cleanup Day with an impactful event centered on the theme “”Clean Seas Against the Climate Crisis.”” Hosted by the DENR-CENRO, the activity drew a large number of participants, including GOTI employees and volunteers from the PPA-PMO MOZ, Philippine Coast Guard, Local Government of Baybay Triunfo, Misamis University, La Salle University, Bureau of Fire Protection, and the PNP Maritime Group. This collaborative effort underscored the shared commitment of both public and private sectors to combat marine pollution and its effects on the climate.

Beyond the coastal cleanup, the day’s initiatives showcased GOTI’s broader dedication to environmental and historical preservation. The combined efforts of the volunteers led to the collection of more than two small dump trucks of non-biodegradable waste from the coastline. In a separate but equally significant activity, GOTI joined the Philippine Coast Guard in cleaning and repainting the historic Fort Triunfo Lighthouse. These actions serve as a testament to Globalport’s commitment to promoting sustainable practices and preserving key community landmarks for future generations.

The Vessel Planning and Control Officer’s main responsibility is to ensure that all operational activities related to berthing and planning adhere to the standard operating procedures set by the company. This includes  planning, coordination, and implementation of the Vessel Work Plan.

Globalport Iligan Joins Philippine Bamboo Month Celebration

On 18 September 2025 at 6:30 AM, Globalport Iligan, together with various partner institutions, actively participated in the observance of Philippine Bamboo Month with the theme “Kawayan: Kalikasan, Kabuhayan, Kaunlaran sa Kinabukasan Para sa Bagong Pilipinas.”

The bamboo-planting activity was held at Sitio Bolahon, Barangay Rogongon, Iligan City, and was joined by 11 participants from Globalport Iligan and other organizations including CENRO-Iligan, iCENRO-LGU, Petron, Pilmico, Aboitiz Food Corporation, and Rogongon Agricultural High School. Together, the group successfully planted 300 young bamboo seedlings along the area.

This initiative serves as a testament to the shared commitment of different sectors in harnessing bamboo’s potential—not only in protecting the environment but also in creating sustainable livelihoods and fostering national progress towards a more resilient future.
