Globalport Ozamiz Champions Coastal Preservation with Mangrove Planting

On September 6, 2024, Globalport Ozamiz Terminal Inc. (GOTI) reaffirmed its commitment to environmental sustainability and community development by participating in a mangrove planting activity as part of the Maritime and Archipelagic Nation Awareness Month (MANA Mo) celebration. The event took place in Barangay Dela Paz, Clarin, Misamis Occidental, within GOTI’s adopted area, emphasizing the company’s dedication to ecological preservation.

Various stakeholders, including GOTI, the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA), the Eagle Club, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), DENR-CENRO, the Local Government of Clarin, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), as well as several shipping lines and port stakeholders, collaborated to plant a total of 4,000 mangrove propagules during the event.

Globalport Ozamiz took the lead in organizing and mobilizing volunteers for the mangrove planting effort. A program followed the activity, with representatives from CENRO, PPA, and the Barangay Local Government Unit (BLGU) addressing the attendees and emphasizing the importance of mangroves in maintaining ecological balance, preserving coastal ecosystems, and addressing environmental challenges like coastal erosion and climate change.

Through this initiative, Globalport Ozamiz Terminal Inc. continues to demonstrate its commitment to environmental stewardship, contributing significantly to the restoration and protection of coastal ecosystems.
